Over 50 Years of Donnybrook Style recycling!

This an auction with up to 9 auctioneers, who volunteer their services, simultaneously auctioning donated goods inside and outside of the arena.

The Donnybrook started in 1956 and since then, it has developed into the most anticipated social event of the year.

On the Thursday before the third Saturday in June, Warkworth and Percy Ward ( The old Percy Township) come alive with people cleaning out basements, garages, barns and homes. Items that would be useful to others are placed at the curb for donation to the club that evening. The Service Club's teams of Volunteers come with their trucks/etc. to pickup the goods and the not-so-goods. These donations are taken to the Warkworth Arena. Books, clothing and children's toys are taken to the Red Barn.

In the Arena, club members sort and set up thousands of items in order to get ready for the sale. In the Red Barn, the Girl Guides are getting things ready. On Saturday, the doors are opened for people to have a look and decide what they will bid on. The area of special antiques and collectables is a popular one, as is the $2.00 a box area where you fill a box with any of a wide range of smaller items.

The parking lot is full and hundreds of people descend on the buildings as soon as the doors are opened at 6:30pm. Then at 7pm, the team of auctioneers and their Service Club helpers spread out among the "treasures" and the auction begins. In the red bard items are simply sold at below bargain basement deals.

On Sunday, Club members clean up. The whole thing is a lot of work but it is fun and certainly rewarding. It is one of our biggest fund raisers.

The Club received an Ontario Recycling Award for this event in 1998.
